Description

With just a few brushstrokes, wild in appearance, the character for "emptiness" emerges on this shikishi – a central concept of Zen Buddhism, referring to the impermanence of all things and the liberating power of letting go. The sweeping, almost abstract line work reveals the hand of an accomplished calligrapher of the Shôwa period (1926–1989).

Next to the character is placed a multi-line signature, which lends the work its personal touch. As a traditional, firm painting board, the shikishi offers the ink a velvety, absorbent surface, on which every nuance of brush pressure remains visible.

Please note: only the shikishi is supplied. The frame visible in the images serves illustrative purposes only and can be ordered separately from us.
