Description
The brushwork on this shikishi appears playful and lively, capturing the word "joy" or "cheerful" in flowing lines. A small signature placed at the left edge, together with a red seal, indicates the authorship of a calligrapher of the Shôwa period (1926–1989).
The lightness with which the characters dance across the paper transfers directly to the viewer, making this work a lively accent for living or working spaces. As a traditional, firm mat board, the shikishi offers the ink an ideal foundation on which every nuance of the brush's movement remains visible.
