Description
Four clearly rendered characters fill this shikishi almost completely, their upright, disciplined brushwork conveying at once the meaning of the calligraphy: "The Right Spirit Leads to Nirvana." A detailed, multi-line signature to the left of the characters together with a red seal document the authorship of a Japanese calligrapher of the Shôwa period (1926–1989).
The idea of inner sincerity as a path to enlightenment is deeply rooted in the Buddhist tradition of Japan, giving this work a palpable spiritual depth. The firm, square mounting board – the shikishi – lends the calligraphy a compact, concentrated pictorial effect.
Please note: only the shikishi itself is included in delivery; the mount shown in the photographs serves only for illustration and can be ordered separately from us.
