A deep black with high gloss defines this Raku-yaki chawan by Shoraku Sasaki. The surface appears lively through scattered, slightly broken-up areas in a golden brown tone that trace across the dark ground like fleeting reflections of light. The slightly inward-drawn walls create a pleasing rhythm and lend the form a palpable tension.
