Description
In luminous red and with a delicate landscape motif, this chawan by Waraku Kawasaki unfolds its distinctive presence. Made of Raku ware, it displays the typical, slightly irregular texture that reveals the interplay of fire, air, and handwork. The glaze shifts between rich red, deep black, and delicate white tones that combine into a harmonious overall composition.
The motif of stylized islands and a suggested ocean is embedded in the glaze and appears like a distant scenery emerging from mist – poetic and quiet at the same time. The shape is round and gently modeled, ideal for handling during the tea ceremony.
The chawan is kept in a signed wooden box that confirms its provenance. An expressive piece of Japanese tea ceramics that unites craftsmanship and artistic sensibility.
