Description
A soft lavender that shifts into a deep shade of blue along the cords meets two cream-white natural stones with fine, rust-red speckles in this fuchin set – an unusual yet very harmonious color combination. Two-part stone weights of this kind are traditionally attached to the lower ends of a kakemono to weigh down the hanging scroll and prevent warping or rippling while on display.
The fine rust-brown spots on the otherwise light stone surface give each of the two weights an individual, almost painterly pattern reminiscent of the markings of jasper. The shimmering color gradients of the cords, ranging from delicate lilac to deep blue, add a lively, artful accent that sets this set apart from simpler versions.
This used set of two from the Shôwa period shows the light signs of wear typical of its age. Beyond its pure function as a weight, this fuchin pair, thanks to its exceptional color composition, is also a decorative eye-catcher in its own right for the presentation of a kakemono.
