Description
A muted, earthy plum purple meets two cream-colored natural stones with fine, golden-brown cloud markings in this fuchin set – a restrained, almost meditative color combination that pairs well with calm, classical kakemono motifs. As traditional accessories, such decorative weights are attached to the lower ends of a hanging scroll to weigh it down, stabilize its shape, and prevent it from curling or warping.
The shimmering ocher and gold tones within the stones recall the markings of agate or jasper, giving each of the two weights a distinctive, individual grain. The finely braided, matte-shimmering cords in a muted mauve tone blend harmoniously into this calm interplay of colors without distracting from the texture of the stones.
This used set of two from the Shôwa period shows age-related signs of wear and is thus an authentic piece of Japanese living culture. Beyond its practical function, it serves as a subtle, stylish eye-catcher that further enhances the presentation of a kakemono.
