Description
A lushly blooming branch with orange-red, yellow-shaded blossoms winds across the light-colored surface of this kakemono, accompanied by delicate, light green leaves. The blossoms are rendered with fine brushstrokes and luminous color pigments, so that each individual blossom appears sculptural and lively, and the branch curves across the picture surface like a natural arc.
On the left side of the image, a calligraphic inscription with a red seal complements the painting and points to the pure, unassuming beauty of the motif, as suggested by the characters. This combination of image and calligraphy is typical of classical Japanese flower painting, in which poetry and brushwork form a unity and reinforce one another.
Painted on paper and mounted in a subtly patterned silk border, this hanging scroll captivates with its warm coloring and the elegant linework of the vine. A decorative unique work for lovers of Japanese flower motifs, lending any room a touch of spring color and cheerful lightness.
