Description
A dark-painted, gnarled plum tree runs the entire height of this vase and bears a dense tangle of red and white blossoms, complemented by delicate chrysanthemums along the lower rim. Warm gold clouds in the upper part of the vase make the scene appear as if bathed in soft light.
The plum tree is one of the most popular motifs in Japanese painting and ceramic art, as it is one of the first trees to blossom each year and thus stands for endurance and the approach of spring. This vase is made of Kutani porcelain and hand-painted, with the fine contour lines and bold coloring typical of this Japanese porcelain tradition. It was created in the Heisei period.
Included is a decorative wooden box signed by the master, which protects the vase and underscores its value. Whether as a striking display piece or a thoughtful gift, this handcrafted vase brings a touch of Japanese spring atmosphere into any room.
