Description
This shikishi is dedicated to a rather unusual subject of Japanese calligraphy: the "Way of Dressing," which can be translated in essence as "Fashion." The characters are set down in a confident, flowing hand and are accompanied by a short signature pointing to a calligrapher of the Shôwa era (1926–1989).
Like many traditional "michi" concepts – such as the way of tea or the art of flower arranging – this expression, too, points to a deliberate, cultivated attitude toward life, in which even the choice of clothing is understood as a small art form. On the sturdy mounting board, the shikishi, the calligraphy unfolds a calm, clear visual effect.
