Description
Written line by line in fine, even characters, the complete text of the Heart Sutra, "Hannya Shingyo" - one of the best-known and most frequently recited texts of Mahayana Buddhism - unfolds on this shikishi. The disciplined, calm brushwork reflects the meditative concentration that traditionally accompanies the copying of such sutras.
A shikishi is a firm, square mounting board that is used in Japan for both painting and calligraphy, and whose compact form is particularly suited to the presentation of short, powerful works. The Heart Sutra is regarded as the quintessence of Buddhist wisdom teachings and is still valued today in temples and private devotional spaces.
Please note: only the shikishi itself is delivered; the mounting shown in the product images serves merely for illustration and can be ordered separately from us upon request. A meaningful piece for all those interested in Buddhist calligraphy and the quiet power of hand-written sutras.
