Description
A dark, powerfully expressive chawan, shaped in the unmistakable Raku tradition of ceramic master Shoraku Sasaki. The compact, slightly irregular form conveys palpable handwork and lends the piece a quiet, archaic presence. The surface shows a deep black with a matte to slightly glossy texture, interspersed with striking, light-colored inclusions that resemble bursting embers, giving the restrained interplay of color a distinctive tension.
The glaze lies unevenly over the shard, creating subtle reliefs as well as fine textural variations that become visible when the bowl is turned in the light. Inside, the dark, almost velvety black continues, offering a calm contrast to the lively accents on the outside.
Included is a signed wooden box, which confirms the authenticity of the work and identifies it as a piece of classical Kyoto Raku art.
