Description
Warm amber and ochre tones flow into one another, forming a glaze surface on this tea bowl that recalls autumn foliage or the play of colors of a wood-fired kiln. Thick, irregularly running drips of glaze stand out clearly against the darker, unglazed body at the foot, lending every view of the bowl a new facet.
The chawan bears the stamp of the Japanese master potter Muroi Kaoru and thus represents a ceramics tradition in which chance and craftsmanship are inseparably linked. Made of ceramics, the piece was created in the Heisei period and unites contemporary pottery craftsmanship with the centuries-old ideal of the imperfect, vibrant form.
Included is a signed wooden box in which the bowl can be safely stored and which at the same time documents its provenance. This tea bowl is suitable both for preparing matcha and as an expressive one-of-a-kind piece for collectors and lovers of Japanese ceramic art.
