Description
This matcha bowl comes from the Japanese master potter Shibayama Riiya and captivates with an irregular, warm earthy glaze that shifts from reddish-brown to gray-green tones. The foot of the bowl bears distinct traces of the firing process, which lend the bowl a distinctive, handcrafted character.
The slightly irregular shape and the shifting surface stand fully within the tradition of Japanese tea ceramics, where perfect symmetry is deliberately avoided in order to reveal the natural beauty of clay, fire, and chance instead – an expression of the wabi-sabi aesthetic.
The bowl is delivered in a specially made, signed wooden box, which documents its provenance and ensures safe storage. For lovers of the Japanese tea ceremony or collectors of individually potted chawan, this bowl is an expressive and authentic choice.
