Description
Fine, comb-like incised lines and stamped geometric patterns cover the wall of this tea bowl, giving it a lively, almost archaic texture, while the shimmering glaze shifts between delicate lilac and cool gray.
The Chawan bears the signature of Japanese master potter Sakuma Yoshioka, whose hand can be recognized in the combination of bold shaping and fine surface incision. Made of ceramics in traditional handwork, the bowl was created in the Shôwa period and shows the combination of craftsmanship precision and rustic naturalness typical of this era.
As is customary with high-quality Chawan, the bowl is delivered in a specially made, signed wooden box that protects the one-of-a-kind piece and confirms its authenticity. Whether for preparing matcha as part of the tea ceremony or as a decorative collector's piece: this tea bowl combines Japanese craft tradition with a very distinctive, unmistakable aesthetic.
