Description
A single wanderer crosses an arched bridge, while behind him rows of gnarled trees and gently rising hills fade into the haze - a quiet, narrative landscape that takes the viewer on a silent journey through rural Japan. Fine lines and restrained ink tones create a pleasantly muted atmosphere.
Landscapes with a human figure at a bridge or on a path are among the classic themes of Suiboku-ga and symbolize the path of life as well as the smallness of man amid nature. The hills blurring into the background heighten the impression of vastness and stillness.
A Shikishi is a firm, square mounting board traditionally used for painting and calligraphy. Only the Shikishi itself is supplied; the mount shown in the images serves illustrative purposes only and is available separately from us. A poetic, contemplative landscape image with a narrative touch.
