Description
The depiction focuses on a slender branch with brilliant red plum blossoms shown in various stages between bud and full bloom. The fine linework and delicate pink tones set a clear accent against the light background. Perched on one of the branches is a nightingale, calm and attentive, its plumage rendered in muted natural colors. The composition appears light and poetic, carried by ample open space that emphasizes the elegance of the motif.
The work, attributed to Yoshida Shūkō, was created in the Shōwa period, executed on paper, and comes with an accompanying signed wooden box.
