Description
A vivid red sun sits low over a gently moving sea - with just a few clear brushstrokes, this piece reduces a sunrise to its essence. The warm color gradient of the solar disc and the rhythmic lines of the waves create a calm, almost meditative visual effect.
Motifs of the rising sun are among the oldest and most meaningful pictorial themes of Japan, the "Land of the Rising Sun," and stand symbolically for new beginnings, hope, and the country's close connection to the sea. The simple composition on the square painting board gives the motif ample room to take effect.
A shikishi is a firm painting board traditionally used for painting and calligraphy. Only the shikishi itself is included in delivery; the frame shown in the images serves only for illustration and can be purchased separately from us. A timeless, evocative motif for a quiet place in the home.
