Description
Delicately washed shades of pink and a rich leaf green form a blooming rose along with two closed buds on this shikishi – a motif that unfolds all its delicacy with a few, confidently placed brushstrokes and fine glazes. The slightly browned surface of the paper reveals the age of the work and lends it an additional, patinated charm.
Rose motifs are encountered less often in Japanese painting than, for instance, cherry blossoms or chrysanthemums, which is why this small work possesses a pleasantly distinctive quality. The signature at the lower right, accompanied by a red seal, attests to the hand of the executing artist and dates the work to the Shôwa period (1926–1989).
Please note: only the shikishi is included in the delivery. The mount shown in the photos serves only for illustration and can be ordered separately from us.
