Description

A brightly luminous yellow ground gives this Kyo ware bowl by Roseki Akazawa a particularly clear and at the same time cheerful presence. The high-gloss glaze accentuates the precisely thrown lines of the body, while the decoration is executed in fine, raised relief structures.

On the exterior, a harmoniously composed arrangement of blossoms, leaves, and stylized grasses unfolds, accentuated in strong blue, green, and white. The sculptural treatment lends the motif a subtle sense of depth without disturbing the harmonious overall form.

The foot ring is carefully proportioned and provides a stable stance. The warm, clear coloring stands in elegant contrast to the cool tones of the decoration, making the bowl an appealing example of contemporary Kyo ware.
