Description

A deep, iridescent blue-green with a metallic sheen covers this globular vase, on which a large, delicately light-blue painted blossom sets a calm, almost meditative focal point. The glossy, slightly speckled glaze captures the light in many nuances and lends the surface an almost iridescent, vivid depth.

This vase comes from the Shigaraki tradition, which is known for its spirit of experimentation with glazes as much as for its rustic, unglazed pieces. The globular form with the tightly drawn-in neck concentrates the gaze on the generously placed blossom motif, whose reduced draftsmanship recalls the aesthetic of classical ink painting. The vase bears the signature of the potter Kaoru Ohara.

The piece is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter, which ensures safe storage. With its cool, elegant coloring and quiet blossom motif, this vase is an impressive testament to the creative range of Shigaraki ware.
