Green and rust-red color gradients, the characteristic 'Biidoro' glaze of Shigaraki ware, run across the bulging body of this Tokkuri and tell of the natural reaction of the kiln ash with the iron-rich clay during firing. No mark resembles another, which makes every piece a genuine unique work.

Shigaraki is one of the oldest ceramic traditions of Japan and is known for its robust, earthbound aesthetic, which has been valued since the Kamakura period. The slightly irregular shape of this flask with its distinctive neck underscores the rustic character of the tradition. This Tokkuri comes from Sasaki Shodo and is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter. As a handcrafted unique work, it is excellently suited for serving sake and is at the same time an impressive collector's piece.
