Description
A black lacquered tea container (Chu Natsume) on which interlocking golden circles with orange-colored leaf shapes extend across the entire surface – a geometric design reminiscent of the traditional shippo pattern of the seven treasures. The overlapping circular arcs form a continuous network, into whose interstices small flower and leaf motifs are inserted, creating an appealing interplay between strict geometry and organic ornamentation.
The shippo pattern is traditionally regarded in Japan as a symbol of good fortune, as the endlessly interlocking circles stand for continuous prosperity and harmonious connections.
The container comes in a wooden box signed by the master and is suitable both for the tea ceremony and as a decorative collector's piece of Japanese lacquer art.
