Description
In delicate shades of gray, Mount Fuji rises above a broad, mist-shrouded hilly landscape, while gnarled pines in the foreground lend the image depth and structure - a reduced, almost poetic interpretation of Japan's most famous mountain. The restrained ink painting leaves ample room for the expanse of the landscape.
As a sacred mountain and symbol of Japan, Mount Fuji is one of the most frequently depicted motifs in Japanese art and stands as an emblem of permanence, sublimity, and the close connection between man and nature. On the compact format of the shikishi, the motif unfolds a surprisingly calm, concentrated effect.
A shikishi is a firm mounting board traditionally used for painting and calligraphy. Only the shikishi itself is included in delivery; the mounting shown in the images is for illustration purposes only and can be purchased separately from us. A classic, quiet landscape motif with high recognition value.
