Description
The head of a dragon, with eyes wide open and bared teeth, pushed close to the edge of the image – a close-up, almost confrontational interpretation of a motif otherwise often depicted as a full figure.
The hanging scroll bears the signature and seal of Tanaka Koga.
Broad, dark ink areas capture the wildness of the animal, while fine, light reserved areas make the whiskers, horns, and teeth stand out in relief. This unusually close perspective heightens the effect of the dragon as a symbol of untamed natural force and deliberately departs from the calmer, more distanced depiction common to many other dragon paintings.
As a powerful, expressive eye-catcher, this hanging scroll is particularly suited to collectors seeking an unusual variant of the classic dragon motif.
