Description

Angular in shape and finished with a matte, earthy ochre surface, this guinomi shows a distinctly more rustic side of Bizen ware than many classically round examples. The irregular facets along the rim and the shifting shades of brown reveal the deliberately freehand shaping without a potter's wheel.

It is precisely this diversity that makes the Bizen tradition so fascinating: despite the absence of glaze, the individual shaping and the natural ash deposits from wood firing produce highly varied yet equally characterful results.

This guinomi comes from Ota Atsushi and is delivered in a wooden box signed by the potter. As a handcrafted unique work with a striking, angular shape, it is a distinctive collector's piece of Japanese ceramic art.
