Description

Unglazed and relying entirely on the effect of clay and fire, this guinomi made of Bizen ware shows a lively play of warm earth tones that developed during the days-long wood firing through shifting kiln atmosphere and ash deposits. The slightly irregular wall reveals the freehand shaping on the potter's wheel.

As one of the six ancient pottery towns of Japan, Bizen still enjoys the highest esteem among collectors today, precisely because the outcome of each firing can never be predicted exactly – every piece remains a genuine unique work.

This guinomi is by Kimura Takaaki and is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter. As a handcrafted unique work, it is excellently suited for enjoying sake and is at the same time an impressive collector's piece.
