Description

This guinomi made of traditional Ohi ware is a work by Ohi Cho and displays the unmistakable style of this important pottery family from Kanazawa.

Ohi ware looks back on a history of over 350 years. Originally founded in the 17th century by Ohi Chozaemon, the style developed under the influence of the Raku tradition, which is closely connected to the Japanese tea ceremony. Characteristic is the use of the vivid ame glaze, whose warm brown and gold tones create depth, luster, and an almost organic vitality. These glazes are brought forth by a special firing process that gives the work a unique appearance.

The present guinomi reflects this tradition in an impressive way: the glossy, caramel-colored glaze flows irregularly across the surface, giving the piece its individual character - an essential feature of handcrafted Ohi works. The restrained yet at the same time lively expression makes the piece both an excellent drinking vessel and a valuable collector's item.

The guinomi is delivered in an originally signed wooden box together with an accompanying certificate, which attests to its authenticity.

An extraordinary example of Japanese master ceramics that will delight both connoisseurs of the Ohi tradition and lovers of tea and sake culture alike.
