Description
This guinomi by Kawachi Hidetoshi embodies the vivid essence of modern Oribe ware from Seto. The artist, born in 1960, has made a name for himself through his innovative approach to traditional techniques. He creates dynamic, expressive forms by working across the raw clay body, producing a rough, almost sculptural texture. His glazes combine classic Oribe green with flowing elements of Shino-like feldspar, which bring out unexpected pink and white accents – a style he has deliberately developed to bring movement and depth to the otherwise often calm Oribe aesthetic.
The small vessel shows a striking, hexagonal silhouette with irregular, hand-formed edges that become noticeable to sight and touch. The surface is crossed by strong green and blue glaze flows that converge in geometric, chevron-like patterns and shimmer deep blue in places.
