Description
A warm orange-red reminiscent of autumn foliage covers this guinomi, lending the small sake cup an unusually vivid coloring. Dark, cloud-like patches break through the glaze at the rim and body, creating a lively interplay of light and shadow – a characteristic feature of Hagi ware, renowned for its porous, iridescent glaze.
Hagi-yaki is traditionally regarded in Japan as one of the preferred ceramics for the tea ceremony, as the glaze continues to change with time and use – a process that connoisseurs refer to as the seven transformations of Hagi ware. The slightly irregular, organically shaped body of this guinomi, with its softly tapering rim, makes the piece pleasant to hold and emphasizes its handcrafted origin.
The cup is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter, ensuring safe storage.
