Description
A small sake cup with a thick-walled, creamy white Shino glaze, whose fine crackle structure and tiny pores speak of the traditional firing technique – Shino ware is one of the oldest glaze types in Japan and is known for its warm, almost tactile surface.
The guinomi is handcrafted, with a slightly irregular wall that follows the potter's fingerprints rather than striving for perfect symmetry. It is precisely these small irregularities that make up the appeal of handcrafted sake cups. The glaze shifts between matte white and slightly brownish discolorations at the rim, which arose during firing through contact with the kiln atmosphere. No piece is like another.
Such a guinomi is excellently suited to refined sake culture, but also as a standalone small collector's piece that makes the hallmark of traditional Japanese pottery craftsmanship tangible.
