Description
This guinomi presents itself in muted gray and charcoal tones, its finely speckled surface showing a bolder, more earth-bound expression of the Shino tradition than the classic milky-white variant. The slightly irregular wall with its organically shaped rim gives the small sake cup a pleasantly grounded feel.
Shino ware originated as early as the 16th century in the Mino region and is regarded as one of the first purely Japanese glaze traditions – a deliberate counterpoint to the Chinese-influenced ceramics of that time. To this day it is prized for its lively, never predictable surface effect. This guinomi comes from Taniguchi Shohachi and is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter. A handcrafted unique work, equally suited to daily use and to the collection.
