Description
Gently curved and finished with a slightly wavy rim, this guinomi made of Seto ware combines a delicate bluish-gray glaze with a warm, reddish shimmering body at the foot. The flowing color transitions result from the interplay of different glaze layers in the kiln and give each piece its own distinctive character.
Seto is one of Japan's six ancient pottery towns and looks back on a history spanning more than a thousand years – the term "Setomono" is still used synonymously for ceramics in general across large parts of Japan. The restraint in form and color shown here reflects the long tradition of quiet, functional elegance of this pottery region. This guinomi is delivered in a wooden box signed by the master potter.
