Description
The Heart Sutra (Hannya Shingyo) extends across this kakemono in fine, densely arranged columns – a text that, with its teaching of the emptiness of all phenomena, ranks among the most significant scriptures of Japanese Buddhism. The even line work reveals a practiced, calm hand.
At the lower end of the text columns, signature and red seal attest to the authorship of the work, which is attributable to the Shôwa period (1926–1989). The wooden roller ends blend unobtrusively into the plain, meditative overall effect of this calligraphy.
This calligraphy comes in a wooden box that safely preserves the work.
