Description
Two long-tailed birds of paradise with brilliant red and deep blue plumage float among lushly blooming peonies in shades of pink and coral across the bulging body of this vase. A narrow gold rim at the neck and two fine red lines at the foot decoratively frame the composition.
The vase is made of Kutani porcelain, one of the most renowned Japanese porcelain traditions, known for its bold, carefully hand-applied painting. Birds and blossoms are among the classic auspicious motifs of Japanese art and symbolize beauty, abundance, and harmonious coexistence. The piece was created in the Heisei period and shows the characteristic, slightly crackled glaze surface of this porcelain tradition.
