Description
A proud peacock with an emerald-green neck and an elaborately fanned tail plumage is enthroned amid lushly blooming peonies in shades of pink and purple on this vase. A geometric meander pattern in red and gold borders the lower rim, lending the composition a representative frame.
In East Asian symbolism, the peacock stands for beauty, dignity, and prosperity, while the peony is regarded as the queen of flowers and symbolizes wealth and honor. Made of Kutani porcelain, this vase displays a particularly rich and detailed painting style characteristic of high-quality pieces of this tradition.
