Description

A Nepalese Buddha figure made of bronze, with a richly decorated crown and elaborate ornamentation on the arms and chest – an iconography strongly reminiscent of the Tibetan Buddhist pictorial tradition. The hands are joined in a praying gesture in front of the chest, while the additional arms hold attributes such as lotus flowers, suggesting a depiction as a multi-armed Bodhisattva figure. The fine chasing of the crown, necklaces, and bracelets attests to great craftsmanship. The dark, even patina of the bronze underscores the age and authenticity of the piece, while the calm, meditative expression of the face emphasizes the spiritual character of the figure.

Such bronze figures from the Himalayan region are valued both as religious objects and as independent works of art, and form an impressive eye-catcher in any collection of Asian art.
