Description
Standing close together, two cranes turn their gaze toward the rising sun, its strong red settling in soft gradients across the misty sky. The birds stand on a rock, at their feet grows a small, gnarled pine branch, its dark green needles forming a beautiful contrast to the pure white of the plumage. The composition appears especially atmospheric and calm through the delicate color gradients in the background.
Crane, pine, and rising sun are among the classic auspicious symbols of Japanese art and are frequently depicted together to wish for longevity, constancy, and a good new beginning. A small signature field in the lower right confirms the authorship. Created on silk, the hanging scroll is framed by a decorative gray-green border with an oval pattern print and mounted on a rod with plastic end caps.
Through the combination of several auspicious symbols at once in a harmonious composition, this kakemono is especially well suited as a meaningful gift or as a decorative highlight for lovers of classic Japanese bird painting.
