Description
In muted earth tones ranging from ochre to mustard yellow, this cylindrical, finely ribbed vase displays a single flowering branch with white blossoms painted on in restrained elegance. The reduced color palette and the clear, calm line work distinctly set this piece apart from the vividly colorful porcelains of other Japanese regions.
The vase is made of Imari porcelain, a tradition that takes its name from the port of the same name in Saga Prefecture and is known for its craftsmanship developed over centuries. The delicate flowering branch stands, in Japanese symbolism, for approaching spring and the transience of beauty. The piece was created in the Heisei period and was painted entirely by hand.
The vase comes in a specially made, signed wooden box inscribed with Kabin, which documents its provenance and serves for safe storage. With its calm, earthy coloring, this Imari vase fits particularly well into understatedly designed living spaces and makes a stylish gift for connoisseurs of Japanese porcelain art.
