Description
Stillness lies over this wintry scene: a farmhouse crouches beneath dense tree cover, while a single figure walks across a narrow bridge – the landscape entirely immersed in muted gray and beige tones.
The ink painting on paper relies on soft gradations and reserved blank areas to make both snow and mist palpable; only a few details, such as the branches of the trees or the roof of the house, are clearly outlined. The painting bears the signature and seal of Bunrin Shiokawa.
Dating from the Shôwa period, the kakemono is delivered including a separately signed wooden box. A quiet, poetic winter landscape that captures the quiet beauty of the cold season in classical Japanese manner.
