Description
This impressive kakemono from the Meiji period depicts a winter mountain landscape that radiates a deep tranquility in its simple elegance. The mist enveloping the mountains and the bare branches of the trees convey a sense of stillness and solitude. In the foreground, a small, unadorned gate can be seen, leading to a hidden path and underscoring the mystique of the scene.
Masterfully painted on silk and signed by Keisui, this work captivates with its delicate tones and fine attention to detail. The birds passing through the sky lend the scenery a lively dynamism and heighten the contrast to the peaceful landscape.
The wooden jikusaki completes the traditional appearance of this artwork. This rare piece is an outstanding example of the high artistry of the Meiji period and a valuable collector's item for lovers of Japanese landscape painting.
