Description
"Every Day Is a Good Day" – 日々是好日 – reads the powerful calligraphy that adorns this kakemono, tracing back to a famous saying of the 10th-century Chinese Zen master Ummon. Set in dynamic, flowing brushstrokes across the entire width of the image, the strength and movement of the ink become immediately palpable.
The phrase is among the best-known Zen sayings and is still used today in tea houses and monasteries as a reminder of the equal value of each individual day, regardless of outer circumstances. Those who engage with the statement find in it an invitation to serenity and mindfulness in everyday life.
The sheet bears the signature and seal of Ryoaki Miwa. Mounted on light-colored paper with a simple border, the calligraphy stands out clearly and serves as a calm, meditative focal point that invites daily reflection, whether in a traditional tokonoma or in a modern room.
