Kakemono by Kanō Eihaku: landscape motif in ink on silk.

Kanō Eihaku (狩野永伯) belonged to the Kyō-Kanō school and was involved in wall painting work at the Imperial Palace from 1708.

Kakemono by Nakajima Kahō: owl on a branch, surrounded by sparrows.

Nakajima Kahō (中島華鳳) was a painter of the Maruyama school in Kyōto. He studied under Mori Kansai and received his calligraphic training from Tomioka Tessai.

Kakemono by Hata Getsushū: raftsman on a river between blossoming trees and mountains.

Hata Getsushū (羽田月洲, born 1841) was a Kyōto Nihonga painter and student of Mochizuki Gyokusen. The family name is also read Haneda.

Kakemono by Kanō Tanshin: dragon between clouds and waves, in ink on silk.

Kanō Tanshin (狩野探信) is an artist name held by two painters of the Kajibashi Kanō house in different centuries.

Kakemono by Hara Zaichū: dark green foliage with two red berries on silk.

Hara Zaichū (原在中, 1750–1837) founded the Hara school in Kyōto. He combined Chinese painting style, Yamato-e, Maruyama realism, and the coloration of the Tosa school.

Kakemono by Shibata Zeshin: white butterfly over red carnations and autumnal riverside grasses.

Shibata Zeshin (柴田是真, 1807–1891) was both a lacquer artist and a painter and mastered the transition from the Edo to the Meiji period. In 1890 he became an imperial court artist.

Kakemono by Tanaka Hakuin: Japanese eggplant, painted in ink and color.

Tanaka Hakuin (田中柏陰) was a Japanese painter. He is not to be confused with the Zen master Hakuin Ekaku.

Kakemono by Nakamura Shundei: uguisu on a flowering plum branch.

Nakamura Shundei

Nakamura Shundei (中村春泥) was a Nihonga painter from Yamaguchi Prefecture. As a student of Arai Kanpō, he devoted himself to bird-and-flower painting and exhibited at the Inten from 1941 onward.

Nakahara Yōtō

Nakahara Yōtō (中原甕塘) was a painter of the Nanga school in the Meiji period and was listed in the rankings of literati painting.

Kakemono by Araki Kanpō: songbird on a blossoming camellia branch, in dense color.

Araki Kanpō (荒木寛畝, 1831–1915) was one of the most important Kachō-ga painters of the Meiji period. His peacock painting from 1890 came into imperial possession.

Kakemono by Ikegami Shūho: bird on an autumn-colored branch.

Ikegami Shūho (池上秀畝, 1874–1944) was Araki Kanpō's first student and was awarded prizes three times in succession at the Bunten for landscapes and kachō-ga.

Kobayashi Taigen

Kobayashi Taigen (小林太玄) is the abbot of the Ōbai-in at Daitoku-ji in Kyōto. His Zen calligraphies are intended for use in the tea room.

Matsuura Shōdō

Matsuura Shōdō (松浦松洞, 1837–1862) was a painter of the Shijō school and a student of Yoshida Shōin. He created the best-known portrait of his teacher.
