Description

The spherical, slightly flattened shape of this vase is reminiscent of a ripe fruit and offers ample space for the hand-painted floral composition of orange carnations and deep purple camellias to unfold. Grasses highlighted in silver and gold play around the blossoms, lending additional depth to the scene.

This vase is made of Kutani porcelain and displays the combination of fine linework and bold, luminous coloring characteristic of this tradition. Floral motifs are among the classic subjects of Japanese porcelain art and stand for beauty, growth, and the appreciation of the seasons. The piece was handcrafted and hand-painted in the Heisei period.

The vase comes in a decorative wooden box signed by the master, which serves for safekeeping and attests to its special provenance. With its extraordinary shape and its careful painting, it is both an impressive gift and a stylish collector's piece for friends of Japanese ceramic art.
