Description

Even in the depths of winter, the plum blossom is regarded in Japan as a herald of approaching spring – a motif that blooms on this angular Kutani vase in delicate pink and gold tones against a creamy white ground, accompanied by slender pine needles that stand for constancy.

The square, slightly waisted form sets itself apart from the classic round vase and creates additional surfaces on which the branches of blossoms unfold in a calm rhythm. Kutani-yaki is among the most renowned porcelain traditions of Japan and is celebrated for its combination of fine body and richly detailed hand-painting, in which gold and enamel colors contrast gently with the pale ground.

As a decorative unique work, this vase combines classic symbolism with a timelessly elegant form and fits into both traditional and modern living spaces, where it stands as a quiet testament to Japanese craftsmanship.
