Description

Regarded as a symbol of abundance and fertility, the pomegranate has long been considered a bringer of good fortune in both Japanese and Chinese symbolism – a motif that this ceramic vase takes up directly in its sculptural form: the open, blossom-like mouth and the burst, net-like structure on the wall deceptively mimic the ripe fruit in a natural way.

The warm, copper-brown glaze tone with its shimmering shades underscores the organic effect and makes the vase's spherical silhouette appear especially sculptural. Such figural forms demand a high degree of craftsmanship from potters, as they react considerably more sensitively during firing than classic round forms.

This unique work is signed by Yoshida (吉田), whose hand is reflected in the lively, irregular texture of the surface. The vase comes in a wooden box signed by the master potter, offering this extraordinary piece a secure and stylish place of storage.
