Description
A small, colorful bird with blue-and-gold plumage sits amid delicately blossoming branches on this vase, surrounded by lush green leaves and cream to yellow blossoms. A narrow gold rim at the neck and a dark red band of color at the foot round off the harmonious composition.
Bird and blossom motifs are among the most popular subjects in Japanese porcelain painting, as they capture a closeness to nature and the change of seasons. This vase is handcrafted and hand-painted from Kutani porcelain, with the fine linework and vivid color palette revealing the characteristic hallmark of this tradition. The piece dates from the Heisei period.
The vase is delivered in a decorative wooden box signed by the master, which serves for safekeeping. With its vivid motif, it is an evocative eye-catcher for any room and, at the same time, a fitting gift for friends of Japanese artisanal ceramics.
