Description
A delicate relief of overlapping petals extends across the bulbous body of this vase and was incised by hand into the clay before firing – a technique traditionally combined in Kyoto-yaki with calm, light-colored glazes. The milky-white glaze settles like a fine veil over the relief pattern, letting the warm, sand-colored ceramic body show through at the raised areas, so that the floral motif emerges in relief.
The short, slightly flared neck forms an elegant transition to the voluminous, spherical shape of the vessel, which lends the vase, despite its size, a balanced, almost floating silhouette. This form is typical of decorative Kyoto ware, which always seeks the balance between volume and delicacy.
The vase is delivered in a signed wooden box, which ensures safe storage and documents its provenance. Whether fitted with a single flowering branch or displayed as a standalone object, this vase from the Shōwa period unfolds its quiet elegance in any Japanese-inspired interior.
