Description
Softly blending tones of rosé, cream, and blue-gray define this chawan by Ken Kato, lending it a calm, almost atmospheric presence. The matte, slightly grainy surface is typical of Shino ware and shows fine, naturally occurring depressions as well as subtle color gradations reminiscent of rising steam or veils of mist.
The form is compact and harmoniously balanced, with a gently irregular silhouette that gives the vessel an organic presence. The stable foot ring provides secure footing, while the soft interior glaze forms a pleasant contrast to the more strongly textured exterior.
In this piece, Ken Kato combines traditional Shino techniques with a fine sense of contemporary aesthetics. The chawan is delivered in a signed wooden box that documents its provenance and identifies it as an authentic work by a distinguished Shino specialist.
